Brett's Tips

Here are some of the tips that I have used over the years & hopefully they can be of use to you.....

1.       Always 3 putting!!!!! Here is a great tip for touch & feel on the greens which are the two key ingredients for consistent putting. From whatever distance your struggling with drop 3 balls down on the green, now putt to the hole with your eyes closed.... it's as easy as that...I guarantee your lag putting will improve.

2.       Amateurs have a hard time lining up a golf shot, the problem is they align there body to the target first which is completely wrong. Train yourself to set the clubface first then take your stance last. Watch how the Pro's do it they will do it this way.

3.       A great tip & one which I still use to this day is when practicing, put your feet together & hit shots with an 8 iron...this will keep your legs nice & quiet and produces great hand speed.

4.       A great tip for hand speed as well is too grip the club with just your right hand (If you're a right hand player & vice versa if your left handed) & hits balls ...this teaches you to release the club.

5.       Putting practice should always be fun so a simple drill is to place 5 tees around the hole a putter length away...now place 3 balls down and going around the circle make the three from each tee. Once you have done this move the tee back a foot and do the same again. Keep going back as far as you like.

6.       A common mistake in chipping is taking the club back to low, with straight stiff wrists which results in scooping the ball. Start by setting up with a slightly open stance & clubface, your weight is forward onto your front foot. To generate height you have to hinge your wrists.

7.      Bunker play is almost identical to that of a high lofted chip shot. Once again your weight is firmly on your front foot & the key to getting the ball out is wrist cock or wrist hinge this is a must. If your takeaway is too low you will skinny the shot or hit it heavy.

8.      A big thing before Amateurs play that I see is too get straight into the driver in practice before they play. Learn to hit a few shorter clubs before you start your round that way your rhythm will be better before you tee it up.

9.      The best pitchers in the game use body rotation through the ball...the worst use almost none. If you freeze your body you generally just throw the club at the ball which is no good. Turning your body through keeps the club shallow & lets it get under the ball.

10. Hitting into the wind is one of the toughest shots in golf. First widen your stance, a wider stance helps you with a shallower swing plane. A steep downward action produces the ball to balloon. Second, shorten your swing, a shorter backswing will help you accelerate through the ball & finally take one more club than normal. How many times do you come up short.

11. And the final Bogle tip is too shop at DRUMMOND GOLF ...they'll lift your game.
